Choosing the right land surveyor

So you’ve established you need a land surveyor, you’ve searched online, and multiple land surveying firms have come up - including this one! It can be difficult to know which surveyor will be best for your project, so we’ve put together some tips to help you choose.

We are land surveyors ourselves, so we’re slightly biased that Survus is the right fit - but no matter who you end up working with, following the advice below will make sure you have the top team for the job.

Research your local surveyors

The first step towards finding the right land surveying firm to complete the works you require is some thorough research. As well as checking out company websites, consider:

  • How well do they know the region?
Ideally, you want to work with a surveyor who knows Canterbury like the back of their hand. Working with an established firm ensures you’re dealing with people who know Council rules inside-out, which will save you time and headaches.
  • Are they well-reviewed?
Reading a company’s reviews and testimonials will give you a real sense of what they’re like to do business with. Great reviews help to build confidence in a company before you’ve even met.

At Survus Consultants, we’re proud to tick both boxes! We’ve been surveying in Canterbury since 1957 and have numerous customer testimonials as well as a five-star rating on Google. Our team of charming Cantabrians know the lay of the land and have solid relationships with like-minded professional sub-consultants, council staff, builders, architects, and property lawyers across the region.

This puts us in a great position to provide excellent results and a top-tier customer experience. We want every client to leave us a five-star review, and we work hard to ensure your experience with Survus is nothing less than that level.

Make a quick qualification check

  • Not all land surveyors are created equal: different surveyors may have completed different levels of study, which can impact your project in the long run. It’s really important to choose a surveyor that can not only complete the work but can also certify it legally in accord with the local authorities & Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) if necessary.

  • Luckily our team of talented and good-looking surveyors not only have the right expertise to do the work, they’ve been doing it for a long time. We’ve got a diverse bunch here at Survus, and they’re always happy to share their expertise and help each other out.

The right job, at the right price

As surveyors, we know that a lot of the work we do covers all of the groundwork (excuse the pun), but often without giving us anything tangible and pretty to hand over to you when we’re done. As a result, it can be hard to make a price comparison between firms.

So we thought we’d be straight-up with you: at Survus we aren’t the cheapest, (no prizes for being this) and we aren’t the most expensive. We believe we charge a competitive price, with a genuine and thorough approach that our customers love. Excellent service is the cornerstone of our business, and something we pride ourselves on - after all, it’s literally in our name!

While surveying might not be the most glamorous job, our team is in it because they love it. We’re delighted that the work we do enables farmland and back-yards to be subdivided into beautiful places for people to live, or that our work provides a platform for an architect to design you a stunning home.
